After portraying “Professor Minerva McGonagall” in the successful Harry Potter films, Dame Maggie Smith found continued success in portraying “Violet, the Countess Dowager of Grantham” in PBS-TV’s popular series Downton Abbey. The role earned her two Emmy awards and a Golden Globe award. In a rare interview, Dame Maggie will discuss the series on CBS-TV’s 60 Minutes this Sunday, February 17 at 7:00pm EST. That gives plenty of time for Downton Abbey fans (like myself and our webmistress) to watch the interview before the season finale of Season 3 is aired on PBS-TV at 9:00pm EST.
The BBC America website posted a sneak peek video of Dame Maggie being interviewed by Steve Kroft, one of the correspondents for 60 Minutes. Mr. Kroft appeared a bit surprised that the British actress hadn’t watched one episode of the successful show. He commented that she must be the only person in England who is not watching it. And in a tone slightly reminiscent of our favorite Hogwarts Professor of Transfiguration, Dame Maggie replied, “Well, that’s a record then, isn’t it, of some sort?”
